'.Australian & N.Z. Cable Association.] LEPROSY INFECTED RAT. SYDNEY. May 17. A rat infested with leprosy was discovered in the cit.' to-day, but the Health Authorities state there is n; cause for alarm, as many doctors are inclined to regard rat leprosy and human leprosy as two distinct diseases.

VISITORS' ENTERTAINED. MELBOURNE. May 18. Representatives of Canada. South Africa and New Zealand, who attended the opening of the Federal Parliament. at Canberra, were entertained at a civic reception by tho Lord Mayor. Hon McLeod, responding on behalf of New Zealand, expressed appreciation of (lie manner in which the people of Australia had received the Dominion representatives. “We in New Zealand.” he continued, “are closest to Australia, and New Zealand has a deep affection for Australians. There are forty thousand New Zealanders in. Australia and fifty thousand AtislraTin!’' in New Zealand. J wish Australians would visit Now Zealand, for we have many natural attractions, and you would enjoy visiting us and getting to know us more.”
