Total for 3 wickets :.. PARTICULAR'S OF PLAY. LONDON. May 16. The weather was dull and cold with rain threatening when the match was resumed. Rain had fallen overnight, but the pitch was not seriously affected. The New Zealand attack was share’ |, y Bernau and AfcGirr. but Blunt soon relieved the former, who later fielding at mid-off unfortunately missed Cutmore when he had reached twenty-six. At ninety Merritt took over the hall hut the howling generally, with the exception of .McGirr was erratic. At lunch the total had reached 4 for 200. Oil resuming Russell and Ashton scored so fast that seventy-four were added in forty minutes. The game then took a turn in the, visitors favour as McGirr in one over clean howled Russell and got Douglas and Morris caught in the slips. Both were superb catches by Dempster. Lowry who is not a regular howler went on himself and got O’Connor whose sixtyfive included nine fours. Bain suspended play for ten minutes. The Ashton playing for Essex is Hubert not Claude.
Stumps were then drawn
SMALLER, CRICKET BALI
LONDON, May 15
The “Daily Aiail” in a leader, says: “Remembering that the smaller hall was intended to assist the howler, it is ironical that thirty-nine centuries have been compiled in six days. Recent billiard table wickets are partly responsible. Other critics express the opinion that the real reason is the dearth of bowlers.”
