WESTLAND COMPETITIONS SOCIETY

The Executive of the above met at the County Chambers at 11.30 a.m. ou' Saturday forenoon. Present: Air D. .). Evans (President), Rev. G. Kno’V'.cs Smith and Father Finnerty (Vico Presidents), Messrs Partridge. Swency, Richards, Conning and Morris (lion, sec). H was stated that Miss Daly, A.T.C.L. had accepted again, the position of honorary accompanist.—Received with thanks.

The Mon. Sec. reported that the two concerts in aid of the Plunket Society had netted about £23 to the funds. The judges submitted their selections lor the competitions, which were approved. It was stated the pianoforte piece for juveniles was to be re-cliosen.

It was decided in response to n request to add classes tor national dancing. enquiry to he made regarding judges.

It was resolved also lo add a class for adult choir singing, the musical judge to select an anthem and a hymn. A shield was suggested as the award for this class. the shield to he held train year to year by the winning choir. It was stated Mr Scildon M.P. had offered a cup lor a yearly challenge competition. It was resolved to allot same to the Shakespeare section, and to thank Mr Seddoii for his acceptable gift. The dates for the Competition were fixed as follows: Saturday and Monday. August 27th. and 29th. in the Soldiers' Hull, and Tuesday. August 30lli. (demonstration night) in the Princess Theatre. Entries are to close ten days before the opening of the Competitions.

The Secretary was authorised to arrange for the printing of the book of words at once, same to he on sale at (id per copy.

Advice has since been received from .Mr Moss, judge of the Musical Section, that the Piano Solo. 9-12. will he “ Happy Summer Days.” by Melton Blake. ‘
