ADOINCTON STOCK SALES. CHRISTCHURCH, May 12. The weekly market yesterday drew a larger entry of fat lambs and fat
sheep, and a reduced one of store sheep and fat cattle. There was a comparatively small entry of store sheep. Wether lambs were about Is per head cheaper than last week. Only owns with teeth sold at all well, and they were by no means numerous. The hulk of the ewes were in low condition. Wethers met with a consistently good demand, and prices were fro mis to 2s a head better than last week
Fat I ambs— The entry comprised 3059 head, 100(1 more than last week. It Was the heaviest entry for some time. Good sorts of lambs were fairly plentiful. A few West Coast truck lots were forward. The sale was brisk throughout, and a shade of firming was recorded on last week. ‘Schedule rates were generally exceeded. Values were
... Extra prime heavy hunks to 30s lOd. prime lambs 25s 9d to 28s, "medium 22s 9d to 25s 6d, light lambs 18s to 225.
Fat sheep—The market opened on a parity with the good sale of last week, but slackened as it continued, and on an average, values were below those of the preceding sale. Values were—Extra, prime wethers 33s lOd prime 27s to 20s 6d, medium 21s Oil to 26s od. light 22s to 21s 6d; extra prime ewes 2Gs to 20s 7d, prime 20s (let to 24s Gd, medium 16s to 20s. light 13s to llos, aged 10s and 12s Gd. Fat 'Cattle—A much smaller yarding, comprising 410. compared with 650 last week. A few lines were forward from flic Coast and the south. A few pens of the best quality beef sold at up to 33s 6d per 1001 b., medium weight, good quality steers 29s 6d to 31s Gd, heavy steer beef 20s 6d to 28s Gd, good cow 25s Gd to 26s Gd, and rought from 19s to 22s Gd. Values were: —Heavy-weight bullocks £l4 10s to £l6 7s Gd, extra prime mediumweight steers £l3 los to £ls ss, prime medium weight steers £l2 5s to £l3 10s, medium quality steers £S in§ to
£l2, light and rough steers £6 5s to £8 ss, extra .prime heifers to £ll 2s Cd, prime heifers £8 5s to £lO ss, medium heifers £G 5s to £7 15s. light heifers £3 10s to £6, extra prime cows~£~ 5s to £0 los, medium cows £4 15s to C'7, aged cows £3 IDs to £4 10s. Veaiers—Runners to £O, prime vealers £4 to £4 15s, medium veaiers £2 to £3 10s, small and inferior calves 8s to 255. Store cat-tie—There was a (fairly/ large entry of store cattle. It consisted mainly of cons, with a few lines of steers. The demand for cows was good, but most of the steers failed to change hands at auction. Values were —Good cows £3 to £3 10s, others 30s to £2 10s. good hulls to £7, others £3 to £5 10s.
Dairy Cattle—The entrv of dairv cattle totalled 68 head. The deman was keen and prices showed an advance on late rates. Values were— Good second, third and fourth cal vers £lO to £l4 10s, medium sorts £7 to £9 ]os, inferior sorts £4 10s to £G 10s. springing heifers £5 10s to £9, old cows in profit 2 to £4 12s 6d.
Fat. pigs—In the fat pig pens the entry was of moderate size, with porkers in shorter supply than for some time past, and the prices of tin's class advanced, there being a firm demand, liaconers sold well. Values were: Choppers £3 10s to £B. light baconers £3 7.s to £3 15s. heavy bat-oners £4 to £4 12s, extra heavy baconers £4 15s, average price per lb. sfd to Gd. Light porkers 46s to 525, heavy porkers 56s to 635. average price per lb. 7d to Bd.
Store pigs—The yarding of store pigs was a small one, and there was a fair improvement for all classes on last week. The hulk of the entry comprised weaners, large stores being fewer than at the preceding sale. Values were—Weaners 12s to 16s Gd. slips 18-s to 23s 6d, medium stores 24s 6.1 to 30s, large stores 32s to 42s 6d.
