This question was debated by Ihe Cook Hospital Board following upon the reading of a letter to one of its members, Air C. H. Bridge, asking him in future not to claim for these expenses. Tho trouble arose over an account for £1 10s claimed bv Air Bridge, as expenses for attending, the Board meetings. which the Board passed, hut which the audit inspector objected i contending that none of the other country members claimed any expenses. The letter sent by the Board to ATr Bridge, stated: “At the last meeting of the finance committee your account for travelling expenses came in for some comments. Although ihc Board admits that you are entitled to make a claim in this respect, it is felt that out of the goodness of your heart: you will help the Board in future by refraining from claiming any such

expenses.” Afr Coleman : Is Mr Bridge the only country member who claims travelling expenses ? The Chairman : Yes. Afr De Costa : T don’t think this is n matter that ought to be made public. The chairman : Do you want to make it more public by commenting upon it. The Board then discussed the matter in committee, it being decided that, in future the Board accepts the principle of making no travelling allowance for attendance at meetings.
