The first definite indication that any members of the New Zealand (Rugby League Football team which toured Britain last year contemplated returning to England to accept positions as professional players, was given at a meeting of the Management Committee of the Auckland Rugby League to-night, when L. Brown, of the City Club applied for a clearance in order to play for the Migan Club. The Chairman. Mr W. J. llammill, questioned the procedure, and he expressed the opinion that the City Club should he consulted
Mr F. Fox (l)evonporl) said it was generally known that li. Davidson, another member of tile City Club, contemplated returning to England with Brown, both desiring to accept engagements to play as professionals. He considere the question of transfer was a matter for the Auckland League, as the game here would lie the poorer for the loss of Brown and Davidson.
Mr W. d. Davidson (City) said the Club would not stand in the "ay ol the two players, as he undertood that the sum of money mentioned was considerable.
Mr T. Fielding said the Club would have to he well compensated I°>' tlio less sustained and it was for the City Club to give its consent to a clearance. After discussion it was decided that Mr Rammill and tlie Secretary. -Mr .1. Culpan, should wait on the City Club and report to the meeting. X.Z. COUNCIL MEETING. WELLINGTON. May 11. The New Zealand Rugby Union met to-day and decided that a visit from a Japanese Rugby team would not benefit New Zealand Rugby.
