MAGISTRATE’S COURT

THURSDAY, MAY 12th

(Before W. Mddrum, Esq., S.AI.) LICENSING ACT. On charges of being on licensed premises after hours convictions -were recorded as follows :

A resident (.Masonic Hotel), 20s and costs 10s.

Another resident (.Masonic Hotel) dismissed.

Another resident (Dunedin Hotel) dismissed. DEFENDED CASE.

Police v. Claude Robertson (Mr Doagnn), a eh urge of being unlawfully on licensed premises (Masonic Hotel'.

The defendant claimed lie was a hoarder for the week-end. Evidence was given by Constable Randall and defendant and the charge was dismissed. SEVERAL CHARGES. The Police charged J. Morgan (licensee of Masonic Hotel) with selling after hours, exposing liquor for sale nlA< r hours, and supplying to persons under age; P. Piddeiph (barman), with supplying, and A. G. Jones with being unlawfully on the premises and with being under age.

Mr Doogan for the defendants plead ed not guilty.

('unstable Randall gave evidence that he found three men. including Jones, in the bar parlour. The slide was open. Jones gave his ago as 18 years. The bar was well lighted. Jones did not stay the night. Saw Piddeiph in the bar serving three drinks.

.Mr Doogan claimed the men were hoarders, except Jones, who was a guest. John Morgan (licensee) gave evidence that Jones and Taylor engaged hods for the night. He served suit drinks to them. Jones did tot stay the night. A hoarder ordered six drinks for those in No. 2 room. None ot the slides were open when the constable came in. Witness served all the drinks. P. W. Piddeiph gave evidence he di I not see Constable Randall come in. Witness was in the smoke room playing cards, lie did not serve any drinks that night. Was not in the bar when the constable in.

George Koeti gave evidence llinl It was a boarder. lie* shouted and Mol' gan I fought in the drinks on a tray The slide was closed.

Claude Robertson gave evidence that Koeti shouted and Morgan brought in the drinks on a tray. The slide was down.

was playing cards in the smoke room with Piddeiph and Cain. Did licit see the constable. Piddeiph did not have the card table from 7 p.m., for 1 \ hours.

William N. Cain gave corroborative evidence. lie denied having gone to the police station that night and mucha c omplaint.

11. C. lit II also gave evidence. He was supplied with drinks by .Morgan. They had suit drinks. The slide was down. A. (!. Jones corroborated.

His Worship said the charges against doties would he dismissed. Ihe charges against the licensee and Piddeiph also failed and would he dismissed. FURTHER CHARGES.

A Pinm resident, for whom Mr Seller- appeared, pleaded not guilty i < being unlawfully on licensed premises ((Tub Hotel). Explanation accepted. SEA FISHERIES’ ACT.

Batchelor, breach of maintenance orders Cl 1 Is (id. Order made to be gaoled for 14 days in default of payment. Counsel’s fee til Is also allowid.

DEBT CASES. Judgment for plaintid with costs were given in the following cases: Addisons (Mr Flcock) v. .Tos. Freitas C 4 Its (id and costs 23s (id. ('has. Wool house Mr Flcock) v. Jus. Bannister.
