A 1 inistei- ot Education, wive the Educational Institute details of a scheme hy which students would lie aide to enter the teaehng profession without hardship to themselves or loss to the State. Anyone who had made up his mind to enter a trainin': college would receive ample warnin':, so that if he did not approve of the now scheme, he would be able to take up somethin': else. Expenditure on training colleges this year came to £123.000. a very large amount, which was a result of the post-war conditions. The idea was that this system would be replaced by making loans in advance to students to carry them through training, these loans to be repaid by instalments when they became teachers. Tuition would ■be free. This scheme would meet a number of difficulties the Department had to face,
