The death occurred suddenly on Saturday evening of Malcolm, the youngest son of Mr and Mrs K. Prior, of Puller Hoad. The hoy was at school on Thursday, apparently in good health but was taken ill on Friday, and admitted to the Keelton Hospital on Saturday afternoon. He died a few hours afterwards.
John Leitch, a resident ol Blackball, was charged at the Police Court. Grcymouth. yesterday with attempting suicide at Blackball on April 29th. Ho appeared in Court with his neck swathed in bandages, ami is still under treatment at the Grey Hospital. Tie was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within twelve months.

Wilt'll motor-cycling on his way to tlie Dobson Power House on .Saturday at ll.do ]>. 111 .. one of tile fireman named Joseph Drumm. collided with the telegraph post opposite the signal eahin near the Cohden bridge. Ihe cycle evidently skidded and the I rout wheel was hadly buckled. The rider Was thrown and was found by Mrs Meade and conveyed to the Grey Hospital, where it was found lie had sustained a cut on his head. He was reported to he improving to-day. and is still in the hospital.
At the Magistrate's Court. Greymouth yesterday before Mr W. Meldrum. S.M.. the sequel to a light at liiiiiangu was a charge of assault. The plaintiff was Edward MeAlavey, Secretary of the lion (for whom Mr AY. Joyce appeared) and the defendant was David Healey, a member of the Executive (who was represented by .Mr W. I’. McCarthy). In addition to the charge of assault, an application was made that Healey he required to find sureties that he would keep the peace. After hearing considerable evidence, the Magistrate said lie had no doubt that Healey was the aggressor, and was looking for a tight. Healey admitted that there had been had blood between them for a long time, and that he struck MeAlavey. With regard to sureties to keep the peace, it was not usual to make an order hind-

Probably the present case would have the effort of clearing Healey's mind of any such further intention. Unfortunately, the informant had suffered considerable injury to his hand, and had lost five weeks work. Defendant would bo convicted and fined 111, with witnesses’ expenses Cl 7s 7d. and solicitor’s fee C2 2s. and would also he ordered to pay C 6 Is to McAlavev for injuries and loss of wages. The application for sureties would he refused. Fourteen days were allowed for payment.
