FORTY-FOUR HOUR WEEK. MELBOURNE, May 6. The full Arbitration Court granted the forty-four hour week principle to all metal trade unions, subject to the qualification that members of the metal trade unions employed in what are known as “mixed industries,” to which the fortv-eight-hour week principle generally applies, will continue to work under the conditions governing those industries.
ROWING DECISION. HOBART, Afay
A meeting of Australian Amateur Rowing Council decided no eight oared crew will be sent, for Olympia Games in Amsterdam next year, owing to the expense i n vol red. HOPES FOR RIVERIXA. SYDNEY, Afay 9. T. J. Parker, director of Huddart Parker Coy., is of the opinion the Riverina can be refloated. He said a deep channel had formed along side the Riverina on the shore side, and there was eight feet of water on the seaward side. The steamer had been moved about fourteen feet along the beach by the action of the waves. It is hoped to refloat her at high tides about 14th May,
