Murkiewicz, director of a Berlin Bank, as they were motoring back to Berlin last night from Jeuterbog, south of the capital. The chauffeur was able to stop the car in front of some nines trees which had been thrown across the road, and as he did so three masked men jumped out of a dark clump of trees, pointed revolvers at the travellers and shouted ‘'Your money or your life.” Seeing that they were in the robber’s hands the professor and the director gave them their money, some £lO, and a gold cigarette case with a sapphire clasp. The highwaymen were about to burst- the tyres of the car so that the travellers could not raise an alarm in a neighbouring village before they had made their escape, hut the chauffeur talked to them in good Berlin dialect with such eloquence that they abandomed their plan.
