AUSTRALIAN T.U. CONGRESS. 1 MELBOURE, May 6. Tlie All-Australian Trade Un,ion Congress to-day discussed the piecework question. The Congress resolved that the piecework and bonus system, also co-partnership and profit-sharing .schemes, were insidious and pernicious forms of excessive speeding-up, and should he strenuously opposed by the industrial movement in Australia, and that' steps should he taken to circumvent IHIO American speeding-up methods in Australia. On the motion of Mr Jack Garden, it was decided to defer the proposed affiliation of the Congress with the International Federation of Trade Unions at Amsterdam until the- Amsterdam International has acceded to the request by the lied International of fen?lice to achieve the unity of the Labour Unions for an ‘‘All-In” Conference to achieve the unity of the workers of the world. The Congress decided to convene a Pad-Pacific Congress of Trade Union organisations in for the purpose of finding a mutual ntttmlc towards nnv outbreak of war in the Pacific.

More burglaries have occurred. At Otahuhii, while music was being played in the front room of a house occupied by Mr J. Arkinstall, Manager of Kompthoime Prosser’s West field Works,

a. burglar, evident,lv in stockinged feet, entered Mr Muir’s front room by way of a window and stole a handling and C(> pis. which was in a jewel box. Peter Turnbull's dwelling, about r. mile away, was also visited and .jewellery valued at sever;'.! pounds stolen from the front room, while the occupants were at the back of the house.

A nearly-completed bouse at. Edendnlo was raided by burglars and kits, of tools, valued at several pounds, were stolen.

A fatal collision between a motor cyclist named Bruce Frame, son of Hubert Frame, of Herbert, aged 21 years, and a voutb named Nicholson, son of Mr William Nicholson, of Hampden, riding a horse, occurred just after dark this evening near Hampden Bridge. Frame was riding a Douglas machine, and it is thought that his light uns throwing high, and he did not notice the horse until on it. A lengthy discussion took place at a special meeting of the Gisborne Harbour Board t-odav, on the Geologist's report on the Whareongaonga Quarry, whence Gisborne is to draw supplies of stone for breakwater construction in tbo new harbour works. Finally, ic was decided to apply to the .Minister of Marine to send Mr Furkert to Gisborne to report on the Harbour works generally, and that quarrying operations at Whareongaonga should cease .meantime, except to open up the southern side of the sea lace, the work so far having been proceeding at the northern end. Other harbour works are to proceed as usual in the meantime.

The Inspectors tried to get the names of the pair, hut La cry evaded the issue, and during the hearing of the case it came out that Power was the owner of the car, and there was a flat denial that Laery ever drove the car at all. After giving evidence that Laery was not the driver. Power refused to answer a question as to whether he was the person at the wheel, stating he was there to clear a friend and not incriminate himself.
