TlfK ARIZONA SWEEPSTAKES —TO-XIGIIT.
I foot Gibson Co II] CM again in a new stirring picture drama “ The Arizona Sweepstakes,” a Uni versa l-Gibson spocial wliich opens to-night at the Princess theatre. Thrills of such a nature to satisfy even the most exacting tlemancler of the exciting feature are in this latest Gibson play. [Toot, the idol of millions of movie fans, is at his best in the strikng screen play. Gibson has reached the acme of screen art when it comes to depicting the fast riding boro of the plains. Not only does Hoot ride as only a dare-devil can ride but he shows that he can make love when the occasion demands or contribute excellent bits of comedy to lit the exigencies of the situation. In fact in "The Arizona Sweepstakes” Hoot is just Hoot and that is enough to satisfy any audience. Tin- hig seene ol the play of course comes in the
great cross-country horse race, the Arizona Sweepstakes, which ‘•font” Cardigan, facing jail on a charge of murder, rides for the girl lie loves and to save the ranch of her lather. In this scene Clifford Smith, who directed the picture, has given the screen one of its greatest racing touches. One can almost hear the thunder of the horses hoofs as they dash across fields or up and down rock strewn mountain trails An excellent supporting cast has hoen given the star. Dainty and sympathetic Helen Lynch is east in the role of Nell Savory, the heroine, and one can’t blame either ” Coot ” or Jonathan Carry, the villain, who is pin red bv Philo .McCullough for t'siMing in love* I with her. She makes an appealing little sweetheart, while .McCullough gives to the character of Carey all the nastiness and trwaehery that it is possible to plant in one man. Comedy of the highest type is furnished by TCate Price and George Over, with Billy Schaeffer. Jackie Morgan, and Turner Savage, three sprightly youngsters, enlivening it- all with their kiddish pranks. Others in the east are .Emmett King and Todd llrown. “The Arizona Sweepstakes ” is a clean, gripping pictureplay au<l one that should meet with a great reception from all classes of picture audiences. Its locale is the Chinatown of a large city and an Arizona ranch. Eurther chapters of the serial and a good comedy will also he i shown to-night.
