MENTAL HOSPITALS

AIKDICAL OFFICERS APPOINTED. LONDON, March 23. Applications have recently been called for three senior medical officers fox service in the New Zealand mental hospitals, ami Dr Henry Douglas Hayes, AI.D. ; Dr T. W. ,1. Childs, M. 8., Ch.B. and Dr 3. P. F. Waters, 8.A., MB.A.. B.C'li, 8.A.0. have now been appointed. Dr llaye.s holds the diploma of psychological medicine, and at present is on the staff of the Hamvcll Aledieal Hospital, under the London County Council. He has had experience at Maudsloy .Mental Hospital for borderland eases. Dr Hayes leaves for New Zealand by the Corinthic on September 9th.

Dr Childs is a New Zealander, having been educated at Wellington College and at Edinburgh University. He is 38 years of age. He joined the Now Zealand medical Corps in 1910, and served in France. Ho visited the Dominion after the war. and was appointed medical officer, in charge of the Germans anil Austrians who had boon interned and were now being sent- to Europe. On reaching England, Dr Childs joined the R.A.ALC.. and spent some time ill Egypt and in Palestine. Ht resigned from tho R.A.ALC. in 1920. and was appointed to the Fife and Kinross District A.slyum. where he remained for six months. Since then ..,* has been working under the Ministry of Pensions, and at present is on the staff of the Afinislry's ATental Hospital at TCirkburton. Huddersfield. Dr. Childs will he leaving for the Dominion by the Ruahine on July Ist. Hr Waters obtained his degrees at the Royal University, Dublin. He has special qualifications in psyehologisal medicine, and has served for a time at Alaildsley Afental Hospital. At present he holds the position of Neurological Specialist of the Central Boards of the Afinistry of Pensions in London, and visits the several hospitals under the control of the Afinistry. Dr Waters sails for the Dominion by tho lonic on Afav 20th.
