EMPIRE TRADE. (Received this day at 12,25 p.m.) LONDON, May 3. Sir Alfred Mond, speaking at -a meeting of members of the House of Commons, said his recent trip to the Continent had convinced him tlnit leading businessmen increasingly favoured an economic union in Europe. Raising the question of whether Britain should join in, he said at present there was no organisation to co-ordinate the Empire’s resources, consequently there was a grave danger of Empire units securing only a minimum benefit. The obvious ideal was Imperial free trade. He advocated an Imperial trade commisson advising the Dominion’s on the of tariffs and urged the establishment of a joint imperial tariff against foreigners, to extend to interlmperial trade.
