MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS

[by TELEGRAPH—PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] AVE LLI XGTOX RES ULTS. ■AA'ELLINGTON, April 29. The general effect of the Municipal Elections in the City is that the Civic League returned 27 candidates out of 33, in addition to the Mayor. Labour " lost a seat on the Council and one on

the Hospital Board and only have two representatives on each. The voting was little more than half the number on the rolls.

On the unimproved value issue, a strong movement had recently been made in favour of cancelling it altogether, on the ground that all big buildings now lieing freely erected, escaped paying a fair share of rates. By 8331 to -12G2 however, the vote was in favour of extending the principle to all rates. This was a triumph for Labour.
