ADDINGTON STOCK SALES. (By Telegraph.—Special to Guardian.) CJiIUSTCMUnCII, This Day. -Messrs li. Matson and Co. report as follows regarding their stock sale at Addington yards yesterday:— Store Sheep—A much smaller yarding than last week and with the exception of one large Marlborough station lino, the entry comprised entirely local sheep. The general tone of the market was firm and if anything was better all round than last week. Any good class of ewes also met with a slightly better demand, but inferior stuff throughout was hard to quit. Crossbred ewe lambs J-Js to 18s; cull crossbred ewe lambs to lbs; best half bred ewe lambs tils to ties; m.s. er.«tsbred lambs 12s (id to Ids; one extra pen making 17s 7d; others to hs. A fair yarding of wethers which t- .11 round about last week’s rates. 17. si forward wethers made from 17s to this: medium 1-ls (id to lGs. A majority of ewes i.iTeivd comprised dealeis Ids and bold ove rs. Vendors evidently decided to quit with tile result that the majority of the yarding was sold under the hammer. I, (j and 7 three-quarter bred ewes 13s Gtl to 17s; 2-tooth ewes 2Ls to 27s Id; s.m. crossbred ewes 11s to 13s Cd ; lower condition and inferior ewes 8s Gd; potters to 3s lOd. Store Cattle—A fairly large yarding but mostly nondescript lots and cows. A good demand for all classes of this description. No quotable lines offering.
Beef—A somewhat larger yarding comprising about ">35 head a.s compared with 450 last week, hut the quality generally showed a very great improvement all round, witli a larger proportion of steers. Prices were about on a par. w itli last week and little if any quotable change can be recorded, except on extra special lots. Prime steers £l2 10s 6d to £ls 10s Gd; extra to £l7 2s Gd; medium £8 to £l2; others to £G 2s Gd. Prime heifers £7 10s to £0 15s: extra to £l3 2s 6d; medium £(> to £7 ss; others to £3 10s. Prime cows £(> Ids to £9; extra to £lO 12s Gd ; medium £4 10s to £G ss; others to £3.
l’igs—A larger entry of fat pigs with several lines from the Coast. Bacon prices were firmer and pork easier. Values: Choppers £3 10s to £5 10s; light bacon £3 Os to £3 10s: heavy £4 to £4 O.s (id : average Old to ().',(!. Light porkers 40s to 475; heavy 00s to 00s; average Gild to "Id. Store Pigs—A good entry and prices much easier for large stores in particular. Values were 10s to 10s • slips 17s Cd to 225; medium stores 24s to 27s 6d ; large stores 32s to 42s (id ; sows in pig £2 10s to £4 10s. -Mutton—A smaller yarding but better quality all round with a larger proportion of wethers. The market opened firm at last week’s rates and continued so throughout, exporters operating freely oil all suitable lots, and the market generally showed an improvement of Is to Is fid all round. Fat Lambs—A smaller entry and better quality. The market was firm at last week’s rates and schedule prices were more than fully maintained.
