MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS
AT HOKITIKA. The municipal elections took place yesterday throughout the Dominion and caused a large amount of interest in the various contests. At Hokitika there were contests for the Borough Council, Harbour Board and Hospital Hoard and considerable interest was shown, a fair proportion of the electors voting, the scene in the vicinity of the Town Hall being a busy one in the afternoon. At night a good crowd were waiting about from S o’clock in the vicinity of the Town Hall awaiting the result, but it was not till 10.15 p.m. that, from a. window on the top floor, Mr H. G. Coles (returning officer) announced the preliminary result of the voting for the Council and stated that the other voting papers had not then been opened, the crowd then dispersing. The results of the other polls were not available till this morning. BOROUGH COUNCIL. (Nine seats.) E. Teiehelemann 506 W. Jeffries 503 T>. .T. Evans 460 A. C. Armstrong 440 J. King 135 A. B.
