Cabinet’s policy of restricting immigration during May, June, and July js now being given effect to. Quotas are being reduced 75 per cent, as only separated families and domestic servants will he admitted. The Mataroa and Arawa are duo at Auckland on May 2 and 7 respectively and they are full, as contracts completed before Cabinet's decision are being respected in their entirety.

An unusual incident occurred at a football match at Eeilding on Saturday when Eeilding pjayoel a friendly game against the I Ini Mai team from Morowlienua, states a Press Association telegram. When the teams filed on to the field two Eeilding players, who are members of the Slaughtermen's Union, informed the president that thev would not play unless two other players, who had worked as voluntary butchers during the recent trouble, were ordered off. The president at once ordered off the two unionists, who had made, the threat, and the game proceeded without them.
About midnight on Saturday, when the Mamma was on a voyage from Sydnev to Wellington, the oflieer on watch saw a light astern, and as no vessel had been seen, ho called Captain Hill. The captain decided to turn hack and investigate, when it was found that the light was a patent one attached to a lifebuoy. Nothing else was seen, and the Mamma swung round and resumed her voyage. On Sunday morning it: was discovered that three of the Mamma's lifebuoys were missing, having been thrown overboard by someone on the vessel. A large roll of deck matting was also missing. Nothing has been found to reveal who were the perpetrators.
