Chief-Detective Ward said: that the accused, while working at the factory, stole three pairs of socks and i assisted an apprentice to steal the re-1 maining six pairs of socks and the] trousers. He was. therefore, charged with the theft of all the articles. The Magistrate imposed a fine of £5. in default one month’s imprisonment, on the first charge and convicted and discharged the accused on the second charge, remarking that leniency was only extended because the accused had a, delicate wife and had not been previously convicted. An application for the suppression of accused’s name was refused.
