VALEDICTORY.
There was a hastily made movement on Saturday morning, resulting in a representative gathering of citizens at the Town Hall at noon, to hid goodbye to Air John Lloyd, a valued member of the Borough Council of many years, and also a former member ol the Hokitika School Committee and Hokitika Harbour Board, who left today for the North Island where he will in future reside with his daughter. The Mayor (Air G. A. Perry) presided ami in opening the proceedings sttid ho had not been aware until about an hour before that Air Lloyd intended leaving so soon, and owing to the holiday on Monday, they had to call the gathering hurriedly together. This had militated against the attendance as there were hosts of Iriends who would’have been glad to have attended had they been given notice. In spite of that those present were very representative. In saying good-bye to Air l.loyd they were losing a valuable citizen, one who had discharged the duties of citizenship well and faithfully. v, hkh had been recognised on many occasions by the ratepayers at election time. Michel expressed bis dovp regret at the proposed departure of Air Lloyd. He was one of his oldest friends as with Air Brezoe the three of them ditid come to Hokitika as hoys. Air Lloyd who was visibly overcome feelingly expressed his thanks lor the generous references and lor their kind gifts. He said he could not adequnte|v express his feelings at the moment, bull the going away Irotn his old friends was a wrench that he felt very deeply. He thanked them again for their kind expressions of goodwill. The gatrering then terminated.
