PRISONER ESCAPES. CJIRISTCHURf 11, April 19. Taking advantage of smoke and excitement. raised by a scrub fire on the Pupa mu Prison Estate yesterday afternoon, two prisoners made a dash for freedom. One was recaptured last evening. The other is still at large. Ihe prisoner recaptured was Clentengor. who was discovered at Soekburn, al six o'clock last evening. Raymond Witting, who is still at large, is ageo Jo, height- 5 feet 10 inches, of medium build, dark complexion, with broken nose. Ho escaped in ordinary prison clothes. BLAZE AT DUNEDIN. DUNEDIN. April 19. The Eire Brigade was called out this afternoon to the premises of Ximnio and Blair, seed merchants, in Willis Street, where a fire- find been caused by an overheated hearing. The flames spread from one of the seed boxes to a wooden smut < liute-. and travelled about ten feet along it to the dust house, which is a deep iron walled and roped apartment. The intense draught fanned the lila-ze in the dust house, and burning kapoc-like specks were everywhere. The roof was red hot, and the firemen found access difficult. The roof had to be removed., The grass seed plant was considerably damaged, the wooden top being burned off, and the chute suffered. Persons outside the building noticed the fire first, and the alarm was given from across the road.

Some thousands of pounds worth of oak. owned by the Maoriland Timber Cov., was in a section near the property where the blaze was. The seed place is insured in the Royal Insurance Coy. TWO 11ROT1IEIN DROWNED. DUNEDIN. April 19. Two bays, named Duncan, aged 13 and II respectively, sons of Mr W. Duncan, the New Zealand and Otago representative footballer, were drowned in a dam at Green Island to-day. The boys were playing on a raft, which capsized.
