"With characteristic thoroughness, Germany is endeavouring to popularise the British week-end outdoor habits, the promoters believing it preferable to the beer table habits. This is the outcome of the spread of outdoor games and sports, also copied from Britain. In the past, the only approach the British week-ending has been the excursions of tho so-called “Wimilf Bird” Clubs. Even these ha'.- been excessively disciplined, ami were linking the spontanietv which is the vret of British outdoor habit. 11 “Wander Birds” have been regarded as cranks in the past. The new campaign aims to impress the public with the national importance of open air living, hut such habits never seem to grow naturally in Germany. They must he solemnly organised. Hence Berlin’s huge organised effort to educate the public.
