AIR CHURCHILLS REPLY. LONDON, April 13

Mr Churchill replying in the Commons to criticism of the Budget claimed the discussion showed almost unanimous approval of the financial propos als for the year. Though the U>2s Budget which was ittli of good things resulted in his being almost hoi'ir.ded out of public life, the present cost of the Con trill Government was only lo< million out of 817 millions. Ihe same service would have cost ninety-six million before the. war. Making allowance for the value of money they were costing ten per cent less than before the year (Ministerial cheers). Members talked of economy, but when there Was any specific proposal they criticised it in a tone of unwonted as perity. The size of the army was not excessive in view of needs of the Empire and before there was a !ai„i reduction in the Navy the country must decide whether to abandon the one power stf.mdard, There are three great naval Powers in the world hut fortunately they live in opposite corners of the earth. There was no great upheaval. The trading results ol the vear must be incomparably better than' hist year. He would get the benefits of results concentrated m the income tax. The debate then closed.
