John Sullivan, accountant, aged 26, was charged at the Alagistrate’s Court with failure to account for monies received by him, on helm If of his employed, tho Canadian Government Alereantile Marine, Ltd. The defalcations were alleged to have taken place between June. 1921. and A larch. 1927. Arthur Stewart, accountant, said that the hooks of the Canadian Government Alereantile Afnrine were audited monthly by his firm. The defalcations were discovered on ATarch 16th. At an interview on Alarch 19th, accused admitted tho thefts, and when witness wrote out a confession, accused signed. Tho actual shortages disclosed were about £950. Evidence of admission by tho accused was given by Detective Thomas. Accused pleaded not guilty and was committed for trial, bail being fixed at £250 and one surety of £2-50 with a condition that Sullivan should report dailv to the police. RTG THEFT CHARGE. INVER CAR GTLL, April 12. Alichael Lyons, a railway servant, was arrested this morning and charged at tlie Police Court this afternoon with the theft of £1,147 14s Id, the property of the New Zealand Government railways. He was remanded to appear at Christchurch on April 26th.
