A well known sheep farmer, William .Jbbson was found dead on tho Mo re reOpoutama Road yesterday afternoon, lie evidently fell off his horse through hoari failure. UNEMPLOYED’S RESOLUTION. NEW PLYMOUTH, April 12.' A meeting of about 60 unemployed last night passed a resolution protesting against the Government’s lack of provision for unemployed. Believing that the Government is responsible through its immigration policy and lack of land policy for unemployment, it is its duty to find work at award rates to relieve the situation. MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS. WELLINGTON. April 12. Messrs 0. IE Chapman, and G. A. Troup have boon nominated for the Wellington Mayoralty. There are 32 nominations for the 15 seats on the City Council. There are nine candidates for the Harbour Board, four being required. For the Hospital Board there are 24 nominated, and fourteen are required. FLOUR QUESTION. WELLINGTON, April 12. Asked to-day if there was anything to announce arising irom the recent, deputation at Christchurch in connec-. tion with the wheat market, Air Coates said he was communicating with tho members of Parliament in the Canterbury district before ho made anything public. TTe wanted to give them an opportunity of considering tho matter. MAN KILLED BY MOTOR. AUCKLAND, April 12. A fatal accident occurred in the city street to-night. Leslie Britt was knocked down hv a motor-ear when lie was crossing Hobson street. Air Justice Ostler to-day „nvo judgment against both of the defendants, with interest at 8 per cent. SERIOUS THEFT CHARGE. CHRISTCHURCH, April 12. John Sullivan, accountant, aged 26, was charged at the Alagistrate’s Court with failure to account for monies received by him, on helm If of his employed, tho Canadian Government Alereantile Marine, Ltd. The defalcations were alleged to have taken place between June. 1921. and A larch. 1927. Arthur Stewart, accountant, said that the hooks of the Canadian Government Alereantile Afnrine were audited monthly by his firm. The defalcations were discovered on ATarch 16th. At an interview on Alarch 19th, accused admitted tho thefts, and when witness wrote out a confession, accused signed. Tho actual shortages disclosed were about £950. Evidence of admission by tho accused was given by Detective Thomas. Accused pleaded not guilty and was committed for trial, bail being fixed at £250 and one surety of £2-50 with a condition that Sullivan should report dailv to the police. RTG THEFT CHARGE. INVER CAR GTLL, April 12. Alichael Lyons, a railway servant, was arrested this morning and charged at tlie Police Court this afternoon with the theft of £1,147 14s Id, the property of the New Zealand Government railways. He was remanded to appear at Christchurch on April 26th.
