PURDY V. JAMITO

Charlie Purdy. 9st 111 b, beat Salviuo Jamito. 9st lllb, on points, over fen rounds. under the auspices of the Northern Boxing Association, in the Town Hall to-night. ’flic fight was colourless for seven rounds, but in the last three rounds both fought. Purdy surprised the crowd by carrying the tight to the I 1 ilipino in the last round. Purdy was too fast and clever for Jamito. who was unable to measure his opponent at any stage. COLOUR BAR ON BONERS. WELLINGTON. April 11. It is now the policy of the New Zealand Boxing Council to refuse further permits to coloured boxers front overseas, members holding the opinion that the white man should not be pitted against the black. Mr Aldridge commented upon tins matter, and said nothing w.ts intended against any particular boxer. For instance, Jamito the Filipino, had proved himself a gentleman while in New Zealand. “The trouble is,” he added, “they are not all Jamitos.”
