Already 150 miners arc on the field and additional claims are pegged out daily. One stone sold in Sydney realised C 1 • >O. PRISONER ESCAPES. SYDNEY. April 7. A prisoner named Herbert Stanley made a sensational escape trom the Darlinghurst Courthouse to-day. He was brought from the prison to receive sentence, and was waiting in the corridor below the dock, when he obtained permission from the constable to visit the lavatory. On his lading to return, it was discovered that lie had made his way up into an adjoining empty court, through a trap-door m the dock, which had inadvertently been left open, and thence he reached the street, and he got clean away. This is Stanley's fourth escape trom custody. He escaped twice hv jumping from moving trains. NOT SUSPENDED YET. SYDNEY. April 7. The President of the Electrical Trades Union states that Mr Mnsiyn. the Lord Mayor, lias not been suspended from the assistant Secretaryship. A motion in favour of his suspension, he states, was moved, hut he (the 1 icsident) ruled that as the motion involvoil a serious and drastic action against on afficinl. notice would have to be given before the matter was decided. It therefore stands as a notice of moI lion, for discussions at the next month- , lv meeting.
