A lively interest was manifested m the annual meeting of the Acclimatisation Society last night when there was an unusually large attendance. The sawdust question appeared to be the root cause. Some sixteen new members joined the Society last night, paying tip their subscription for tlie privilege of it vote. A new President was elected, but most of the former Committee, who stood for re-election were returned to office. The Society, thanks mainly to the revenue from opossums is now in a very strong financial position—the best it ever lias been—ami is in the way of doing much more extensive work in regard to acclimatisation. Now that there lias been a fusion of forces with the Grey Society relative to working the hatchery, and a special committee has been set up to take charge of the hatching, it should be possible to do good work in the distribution of fry throughout the district. With the infusion of new blood and the position of the finance, the Society should he in the way of carrying out a very busy and useful year.
