BODY FOUND
FLOATING IN RIVER. Tlie body of an elderly man was found floating in the Hokitika river this afternoon about 1.30 o’clock, opposite the Pioneer Hotel. The body was first seen by Air AY. A. Thompson. It was floating face downwards, just behind tlie Fire Station, inside the breastwork, and Imm the general appearance must have been in the water for upwards of ten days. The police were notified and the body was removed to the morgue. There appears no doubt that it is that of C. AY. Clementson, aged about GO years. He was formerly a resident of Ross in the early days. He had been in tlie district for some "time staying nt Keller's Hotel and later at the Red Lion Hotel till some two or three weeks ago. He was about oft. lOin or oft Hin and was fully dressed and wore a light overcoat. From papers in his clothing lie appeared to be acting as canvasser for tlie- New Zealand Shokeepers Protection Association with headquarters in Christchurch anil was engaged with a petition to Parliament in connection with the Arbitration Court.
