The Governor-General has . received the following telegram from His Roval Highness, the Duke of York: "ihc Duchess and i hope very much that every school in New Zealand. mav be given an extra holiday at Easter to commemorate our visit. (Signed) Albert." llis Excellency lias replied to the following effect: "Your Royal Highuesse’s kind thought for the children is deeply appreciated by tiie Government and .People of New Zealand. The Government is communicating with the Boards of Education and other controlling authorities with a view to giving eileet to your Royal Highnesses wishes. (Signed) Governor-General. BRISBANE. April 6. The Duke and Duchess ol York arrived here to-day. They were welcomed by enormous crowds, in beautifully fine weather. Ihe city was gaily decorated and a general .half holiday was declared in honour of the visit. Responding to the civic address, tie Duke of York said that he wanted to see as much as possible of the problems confronting the employers and the employees. He and tTie Duchess desired to render service to Australia, and they felt that the best way to do that was to see things for themselves and to relate their experiences to others at Home on their return. The Duke has telegraphed to the Governor-General asking that an extra week’s holiday at Easter be granted to the school children throughout the Commonwealth on account of the Royal visit.
