OTIRA TUNNEL
INCREASED TONNAGE. Trallic through the (Kirn tunnel from the West Coast v Canterlmry last year showed an increase of 55,121 tons compared with the year ended on .March 31, l!)2(i. The trallic consists mainly of coal and timber, and the increase has taken place despite a slump in the timber trade and the closing of the Dobson coal mine, as the result of a serious explosion some months ago. In March 33.007 tons of coal were carried, compared with 30,02!) tons for the corresponding period fast year. Had it not been for the Lift that the wash-out at Cora Lynn held up goods traffic for three days, last month s figtiros would lisive been increased by about iiOOO tons.
