THOUGHTS FOR THE TIMES
A Vanishing Race. The name of the all-but-vauished aboriginal race of the Chatham Islands is usually written Aloriori,'but thisMs probably a variant of the original name. An old Maori warrior who spent two years on AVharekauri, in exile with Te Koati, 1866-68. and who came to know the ancient people intimately, gives the name as Alai-oriori, and says that the islanders inlormcd him that "as the original and correct form. And this is supported by other evidence.
