The pumping operations at Dobson .Mine have been more effective since llio now apparatus was installed. The water is now down a. distance of close on a thousand feet in tho main dip, which is 1200 feet in length, with a fall of 400 feet. It is stated that gas has been noticed emanating from the fail outlet of the mine, indicating the removal of water from the coal in some of the higher reaches of the mine. As the water has receded in the dip. half the superstructure of a mine truck has been found alongside, of the rails, it being another evidence of the great force of the explosion on December 3rd last. This was evidently blown up from the lower levels. Tho Company state they expect, when the mine is drained, to utilise compressed air for the work of coal production until new machinery ordered from England .arrives. it is expected that with the present continuous flow through the pipes, tlie water, once it is below Ilie western level, at the foot of the dip, will not take longer than about a fortnight to lift from the din workings. The Company is uncertain whether its electrical pump control apparatus in tlie mine will he fit for use again, hut the pump and oilier submerged equipment should prove of use again with a certain amount of repair.
