Heavy rain and a blusterly northerly prevailed for the greater part of the night and till seven o’clock this morning, then the weather improved though still dull with a promise of more downpours. A start was made with the Auckland match ten shots, 300 and 000 yards and in the afternoon it is intended to lire the champion teams match live men. seven shots. 300. -*()0 and 600 yards the winninrs taking the District Challenge Shield. Concurrently with this the North Island versus South Island match will he fired, twenty men aside, the winners /holding the Dawson Shield .for the ensuing year.
