The Duke received an enthusiastic reception on Ins brief stay of twenty minutes. Tho children of town and country schools assembled to the iiuniher of two thousand, with cadets. On alighting the Duke was presented with an address of welcome on behalf of the Borough and County, the Mayor (Air Galbraith) reading it. The dins was a novel feature surmounted hv an arch hearing the word ‘'Greetings.” in coloured wool, the arcli consisting of the products of the country, wool, butter, cheese and frozen mutton. The Duke evinced great interest in these and inquired the weight of a -beep to which none could .reply. Members of the local bodies were presented as well as Col.onel J. Findlay, lioiiorarv aide tie camp to the Governor-General; Corporal Currie (Indian Mutiny veteran): Major AY. E.
