Surging crowds congregate in the Square ill front of his hotel, enthusiastically cheering his goings and comings. Last cveiling a huge assemblage of people waited for hours to witness his departure for the Citizens’ Ball, ■and there was one continuous cheer along nearly a mile of Iho route bordered by a dense mass of humanity through which the ears had to thread their way at a walking pace. Fourteen debutantes were presented at tile ball. The Duke danced villi ! Mrs Livingstone and Hon .Mrs 'Tabu Rhodes. This mornin£ the Duke visited Outlerburv College where a, crowd of students greeted him with a vigorous hakn, which greatly amused him. He received a rousing welcome, both from men and women students, who cheered wildly, and on. bis leaving sang “For He’s a .lolly Good Fellow.” The Duke. v. ho -walked, hat in hand, through the cheering groups, was. judging, from his smiling face, delighted with the reception. He took notice of the bust of the late Airs MacMillan Brown, first New Zealand graduate and first AT.A. in the Empire. Ai tl.o Y.A1.0.A. he bad another rousing welcome. Here he was introduced to Henry Patton, aged 91. who is the sole surviving member of those who formed the Christchurch As-ocia-
l ion 34 years ago. At the aerodrome the Duke was received by Captain Findlay and introduced to Sir Henry and Lad.v IVigram. and Afro Findlay. ’Pen aeroplanes went til) and flow over the drome. Later, on I chalf of the Duchess, who was to have performed the ceremonv. he laid the foundation stone of the Nurses’ Afenierial Chapel at Christchurch Ho-mital.
