After two months bold up of tbe building trade in Brisbane, the strike of employees, who attempted to enforce a forty Hour week remains unsettled. The strikers are now of the opinion that the lighting front should lie extended, and it' necessary the lighting of the city will be cut off. A AIEI/BOURNE FIRE. MELBOURNE, March 13. Damage to the extent of from fifteen to twenty thousand sterling was done to a building at the corner of Collins and Swanston Streets at mid-day l>y fire. The main occupants of the building wore Stewart Dawson, jewellers; the newspaper “Argus’s” city depot, and the Amateur Sports’ Club. Two women were, trapped within the building, and two men who rushed to their assistance had to ho removed by fire brigade ladders, and another man clung to a. ledge on the top floor fill rescued by the firemen. MAITLAND COAL TROUBLE. SYDNEY, March 13. As the result of the conference called yesterday, it is anticipated that the Deputies’ trouble, which lias Idled the Maitland coalfields will he settled early next week on a basis of modification of the existing conditions regarding the deputies’ duties.
