OVERSEER AIILLNER’S REPORT. I have the honour to report upon the progress of work during the month of February. CENTRAL RIDING.

Kokatahi Bridge Protection, £ for £ grant. This work whs in hand on the Ist of the .month, the continued fine weather allowing the whole of the work specified to be completed on Fcbruury 28th. The work performed consists of GOO links of manuka scrub fascine kept in position by a coninuous wire net, and stone anchor and the bank sheathed with a coating of manuka senjb from the top of the nets to upper surface of the lunk. Upper Kokatahi Road Widening, £ for £. This work was commenced during the latter part of the month, the road being cleared for GG feet in width over a distance of 57 chains.

. Lake Kanieri Road Widening, £ for £. The balance remaining was ..expended in widening a portion of the road lot) links in length between peg 0 chains of No 1 section, and StripLand Creek Bridge, in accordance with the specification. Scddons Ter4ice Track Widening. A portion of this vote was expended in clearing each side of the track a distance of 20 chains and widening the formation a distance oi 4 chains. ; MAINTENANCE. ! Portions of Upper and Lower Kokatiilti Roads were repaired with gravel, defective decking replaced on Kokatahi'and Duck Crock Bridges, traffic planking renewed on a culvert on Lower Kokatahi Road between Lang Road and Rail Creek Bridge. Artlmrstown Road was repaired with river hod gravel between Hokitika River Bridge at Kanieri, and South Hokitika Road. The pit near Fisherman’s Creek Bridge. Adair’s _ Road, was stripped and a quantity of gravel broken down in readiness for repairs to Adair’s and South Hokitika Roads. : Water tables wore cleaned on Lake Kanieri Road, and encroaching growth cleaned oil Upper Kokatahi Roads. South Hokitika Road was repaired with gravel between Takutai and Fislier- ; man’s Creek Bridge. Lake Kanieri ■ Road was lightly graded with the large road grader over a distance oi 8 : ; miles. In both instances the scrub for these works were carted over long distances, the cost of which would have been prohibitive by any. other method of cartage. No repairs were ' needed during the month, the machine running sinoothily rejecting great credit on the driver, N'. Haudall. No 2 truck was kept busily cmployed in the Southern Riding. -also running long distances and doing all classes of work from pile driving to road grading in a satisfactory manner. Slight repairs were needed to this machine which were effected by the driver, («. .Morris, who deserves credit for the manner in which the lorry is being handled. -
