A donation of £1 Is from the Bank of Now South Wales is acknowledged by the Hokitika Fire Brigade.

The New Big River Company’s return for February was:— Battery 53 ozs ydwts from 105 tons crushed ; cyanide lOozs from 50 tons treated; estimated value £255.

The last Gazette notifies that His Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to reappoint Bernard Ward to be a member of the Westland Land Board, as from the sth. March, 1927.

Matters are in good progress for the celebration ball at the Soldiers’ Hall next Friday night in aid of the R.S.A. hall funds, to mark the occasion of the Royal visit that day to Hokitika. Everything will he .in excellent order for the festive occasion.

A bouse at Kotuku occupied by Mr and Mrs N. S. Wilson and family was totally destroyed by fire at 3.30 o’clock yesterday morning. The outbreak started in the kitchen and spread rapidly until both the building and furniture were consumed. The house and its contents were valued at about £I2OO and were insured in the Atlas Office.

A reminder is given of the public; meeting at the County Chambers this evening with regard to measures to secure the advancement of the timber industry in New Zealand Prior to the meeting at 7.30 o’clock, occasion will he taken to farewell Air R. F. Perham, who is leaving to-morrow for America.
