LOST IN RANGES. ALL HOPE GIVEN' UP. BLENHEIM’, March I. Practically all hope of finding Erie Lee Palmer Young, the school teacher who has been missing in the Benmore ( ountry since Sunday last, has muv been abandoned. The search was kept ii 11 all day yesterday, and a small party, including the unfortunate young man’s father, was out to-day, but- it is understood that unless the missing man is located by this evening, the search will he relinquished.
There seems liLtlc doubt that Palmer. after leaving his companions, attempted to penetrate into the country known as No Mail’s Land at the hack of Benmore. This is sleep, precipitous country, characterised in many places h\- sheer precipices 30(1 and TOO feet in height, and containing many enormous shingle slips. An attempt to cross some ol these slips is fatal, as the shingle, once set roi the move, would inevitably luiry the adventurer. It is feared that Palmer has probably been tarried down in one of these slips. In any ease the country in the vicinity is so rugged and broken that it is almost impossible to traverse, and the searchers’ task would he siiper-
human, and almost certainly foredoomed to failure, as it would be quite possible to he within a few feet of tile missing man and never see hint. DAIRY .MANAGER FOUND Sill):. DUNEDIN, .March i.
