HOSPITALS’ CONFERENCE. •CHIUSTHURCH, March 1
A special conference oi the representatives of the Hospital Boards of the Dominion was held to-day to discuss the proposals of Dr Black mo re, Superintendent ot the Canterbury Tuberculosis Sanatoria, for a Dominion scheme far the treatment of tuberculosis. The proposals comprised the establishment in each island of an. organisation of Hospital Boards to provide and maintain tuberculosis dis-
v)onstiriG‘s, il-esli mr liouigs, s*ou»it£iii«i for incipient eases, special hospitals for advanced eases, working colonies for the patients on the way to recovery, and, generally, to control comprehensive preventive measures in. respect of tuberculosis.
The Conference discussed the scheme in committee, and at the conclusion, it was reported that it had been resolved to recommend the General Conference. which meets to-morrow, to refer the matter to the Executive of the Hospital Boards’ Association to take whatever evidence it considered necessary. and to submit its recommendations to a further conference of the Association. ROBBERY WITH VIOLENCE. CH PISTCHF RCH. March 1. Bobbery with violence was the charge to which Richard Carney (27) and Andrew Carney (2.T) pleaded “not guilty’’ in the .Magistrate's Court today before Air Lawry S.AI. It was alleged that on February 21st. the accused robbed Stanley Gordon Grant of a diamond ring valued at £2O and five shillings in money, and at the same time used personal violence. Grant’s evidence was that he was employed hv the Colonial Sugar Coy. in Fiji, and was now on holiday in New Zealand. He had some drink on February 21st. He met the two accused and had some more with them. ' After leaving the hotel, they went to the East Belt, where witness alleged Richard Carney hit him on the chin with his list, knocking him down. Witness rose and was knocked down again, and rose again anil' was again knocked down, when witness, having had enough did not rise, pretending unconsciousness. While he lay on the ground, Carney went through witness’ pockets, taking the ring. Richard Carney was committed for trial, hail being fixed at £2.10 with a surety of £2.10. The charge against Andrew Carney was dismissed. OPH'Ar CHARGE FAILS. NAPIER. .March 1. Mr R. TV. Dyer, S.AL. gave his decision to-day in a case heard on February 1-Ith.. in which Loo Koe was charged with being found in possession of opium suitable for smoking. The opium concerned was found in a parrel left al a service station for delivery tit Wniron. The .Magistrate found defendant was not actually in possession of opium, and he therefore dismissed the charge. SERIOUS THEFT CHARGES. AUKLAXD. Afarch 1. Frederick Roy Humphrey (28), charged with stealing £W 18s lOii from A. B. TT right and Son, Ltd., was remanded, the Chief Detective stating that the total defalcations were in the vicinity of £.IOO.
MARTIAN’S COLT SOLD. .MASTERTON. March 1. The sale was reported to-day of Air A. AlcDonald'.s Alartian-Kildee colt to I'. C.. Jolly, of Adelaide. The price was not disclosed, hut- it is stated to be well in advance of the reserve placed on the youngster at the Trentharn yearling sales. The colt will he put into work at Lowe’s stables at Trentham before shipping him to Australia. He is the only Martian of his age In Australia.
