Another resident (Mr Alurdoeh) (Southland Hotel) pleaded not guilty and after hearing evidence the charge was dismissed. BOTiOrCH BY-LAWS. Borough Inspector (Mr Bark) v. TT . O'Brien senr.. a charge of failure to take out a license for passengers for motor ear. Eincd os and costs 7s. solicitors’ fee £1 Is. ■ DEBT CASES. All debt eases set down were settled or adjourned. ROTTEN APPLES. Police v. Fred Mills (Mr Murdoch) »a charge under the sale of pure foods and drugs act, of selling a case of apples, the contents of which were unlit for consumption. Air Murdoch for defendant pleaded guilty. Sorgt. King slated that two men came to Hokitika. with a truck load of apples which they proceeded to sell in the residen tial part of the town. In one instance a case was sold at 11s fid and when the case was opened the top-layer was lottl'd to lie good and all the others in a rotten state. A request to the seller for a good ease or return of the amount paid was agreed to. hut the seller failed to give effect to the promise. A number of other eases of apples sold were in a similar condition. Fined £2 and costs 10s, and the price of the ease. 11s fid, to he also refunded to the buyer.
