FIRE BRIGADES’ CONFERENCE

The Fire Brigade Conference following ithe executive’s recommendation, decided not to admit the fire police to the association, a AVellington application to this effect being icjeeted. The following remits were carried: That passenger buses bo compelled to carry lire extinguishers of not less than two gallon capacity; that emergency door at the back of all buses he plainly marked “fire exit” or emergency door;” that it be compulsory where motor garages are attached to dwellings that the outside walls, floor and roof be of fire-proof materials: that application be Oaken for wireless broadcast lectures on fire prevention. GISBORNE, February 28. At the Fire Brigade Conference today remits were dealt with a.s follows: Gisborne. —That the arrangement between the underwriters and the AY.F.B.A. lie revised in regard to the conditions of the payment to salvage rates of pay. —Carried. Dannevirke.—That each Sub-Associa-tion have the right to .decide the number of teams to compete at district demonstrations. Rejected. Dunedin,—That at all future demonstrations extension ladders be used in preference to twenty-five feet ladders. Rejected. To Kuiti. —That in future demonstrations provision be made to run drycoupling events with dry gear, and, that, if necessary, those events be run under cover, this giving all teams equal chances.—-Rejected. Onehunga.—That the captain of a team shall have the right of immediate appeal where in his opinion, the Examiner is compelling his team to place the gear in a manner contrary to the printed conditions, or in any way vary or alter the conditions set out in the draft programme.—Carried. To Kuiti.—That trophies he allotted to teams winning rescue events at demonstrations, and that half the prize money in the event he used for the trophies.—Rejected. Xew Brighton.—That the Presidents of Provincial Associations lie granted free passes to AY.F.B.A. Conierenee. —Withdrawn.
Cambridge.—That the examiners be instructed to examine all gear in coiled events on the placing mark instead of at tlie plug. —Adopted. Avondale.—That advantage be taken where wireless stations are established to broadcast occasional lectures on fire prevention.—Carried, with an addition that the addresses be first submitted to the executive.
Ifawera. —That the Retiring President be not eligible for re-election.— Rejected. Past President AYarner (Christchurch) read a paper on electrical heating of motors in cold weather, calling attention to a device by which the machines could he started instantly, and which had been installed on the Christchurch engines. The device was simplicity itself, and the cost only £126; £ls for conduit wiring and installation on the engine.
The delegates were the guests of the Citizens’ Committee at a Cabaret this evening, when there was a very large attendance.
