BRITAIN AND RUSSIA
[Australia ifc N.Z. Cable Association.] SOVIET REPLY. LONDON, . Feb. 2-3. No reply to the British note to the Soviet is expected for some days, though official circles are of the opinion that the Russians prepared a reply days ago, as soon as the despatch of the British note was hinted'at in the press. The real reason for anxiety in. Soviet circles in London, is the studied mildness of the note, because the Russians know perfectly well that the note is based on a mere fraction of the information possessed at Whitehall. consequently the Soviet is left guessing what use will be made of the stronger grounds for complaints, contained in the Foreign Office files. The British reply to the Zvestia’s complaints of Afr Churchill’s, Lord Birkenhead’s and Sir Joynson Hick’s speeches, is that every one was made in reply to flagrant- breaches of the Russian undertaking to tease anti-Bri-tish propaganda. MOSCOW, Fob. 26. The Russian Government to-night will hand the British Charge D’Affaires here the Soviet’s reply to the British note. ‘
