JUDGE’S COAIAIENT. WELLINGTON, Feb. 24

The Judge’s comments on the three leaders in the A grade first test wore: Queen Alexandra’s Own (Wanganui). This band opened in excellent accord with fine tonal quality, level intonation :jjnd unanimity of action And marked precision. The cornet, trombone and euphonium solos wore all artistically interpreted and the obligato parts were effective. In the big ensembles there was a great body of rich tone, really good allround rendering. except for minor lip lapses and certain momentary unsteadiness in a few intricate passages. Greymouth Battalion, in the 1 hymn contest opened in good style with fine round tone. Intonation was taxed in the early part, and hardly a hand escaped here. The euphonium and trombone gave fine interpretations ot their solos while the cornet solo work was quite amongst the best of the evening. The soprano was effective and all parts went well. A, vigorous close completed a most pleasing performance.

Kaikorai—A splendid opening movement with unfortunately one pronounced false note. Tone and tunc were very fine. The euphonium solo was pleasing hut inclined to lose tone occasionally. The sopranno obligato work was a feature and the solo cornet a gem. The harmony parts in the sotto voce were very pretty and the dance movement dainty. All the concluding movements were well played. A really good performance.
