WOOL SALES.
AUCKLAND. February 22. There was a very satisfactory tone at the opening of the second Auckland wool sale. The highest price was 20jd per lb for eight bales of half-bred merino ewe branded Waiti. Compared with Wellington sale last week the prices showed an appreciation of Jd to Vd per II) all round. For some of the super lilies, competition was exceedingly keen. This class of wool was at least *d per lb better than at last southern sale. There was a very strong bench of buyers, all the wool consuming countries being represented. The offering was limited to 20.000 hales, and was one of the best that has been catalogued in Auckland. Bidding started at a very brisk rate and continued lively during the evening. All classes of woo] found a ready demand. French j buyers made a point of bidding strong- j ly for lambs wool. Some lively calls were made for this class. The principal demand for other elasse.s seemed fairly equally divided between Bradford and Continental buyers. Nearly all the wool put up was sold.
