EVERYBODYS’ PICTURES
KI.IXOK GLYX STORY TO-NIGHT.
Ibe sets as well as the people are '■«'■>l hi Elinor Glyn’s Metro-Goldwyn--Muyer production of "Man and Maid,” which i- coming to the Princess Theatre to-night. Madame Glyn iit writing her novels puts in. real life character and actual incidents, fhon in bringing her stories to the screen she transcribes them accurately and casts exactly ns ■o type. The heroine in “Man and Maid uas a tali slender, tragie-evod blonde, u close irieiul of Madame Glyn’s. Harriet Hammond looked identically like the* original, so she was given the role, though she had been away front llie screen for two years and previous to that time had only been connected with pictures as a player of small parts. Lew Cody was so exactly like the hero of Madame i Giya’s talc that she couldn’t resist taking him lor the part, though everyone warned her that lie was essentially the | "heavy.” She won her point conclusively when lie was shown outlie screen! as Sir Nicholas Tliorniomlc, for every semblance of his villaining had been lost and in its place stood the real lover. Dagmar Desmond was “found” by Madame Glyn at a tea party. Miss Desmond had not thought of going into pictures, hut was urged to play the narticular part of Odette in “ M.an and; .Maid ” because she was so like the girl! of that name, whom Madame Glyn had i known and written about. And so j with the sets as with the cast. Madame Glyn has some specific place in mind when she writes about them! and in bringing her stories to the screen insists upon exact replicas of the locations she lias written about. Victor Schertzingcr directed “Man and Maid” under Madame Glyn’s supervision. The latest in Topicals and a good comedy will also lie shown to-night. On Thursday everybody’s favourite Ihihy Peggy, will appear in “Helen’s Baines.”
