With the assistance of the local members of the Automobile Club. an outing was arranged on Saturday far old pioneers of the district. Over 30 availed themselves of tho opportunity and had a very enjoyable time. lim party motored to Upper KA>k,4;ahi where camp was pitched at the junction with the Styx river. The weather was all that could he desired and tho outing was a very pleasant refresher for the old people. A record was taken of eight of the party, their ages' being 80. 82. 83, 83, 85, 85, 02 and 06, a total of 080 years, an average practically of 86 years. These outings are so pleasurable and enjoyable for the old people that no doubt the Automobile Club will continue this practice next and subsequent years. It is a very fitting recognition of the life and work of the old people.
The Culler A. and I’. Association’s 15th. Animal Show opened on Friday at Westport in fine weather. .fudging occupied the afternoon, and was completed cm Saturday morning. Judges Keating (horses'). Hanks (cattle) of Feilding. complimented the breeders on the fine display of stock, cspeeiallv the Friesia.ii and .Tersev cattle, which .Air Banks said, wore equal to anything in the Dominion. Afr Alouiu won the Citizen's Cup. for Friesians. and Air Stephens the Birehfield Cup for Jerseys. The horse cun was awarded Afr Pain. In the home industries for the championship and rose howl was won by Afiss Vitaglich. Afr Wills, judge of
vegtahles. said it. was the finest display he had ever seen, testifying to the splendid productivity of the soil of the Bnller district. Al. lleverland, judge of poultry, expressed surprise at the wonderful improvement and standard of the exhibits. The show proceeded on Saturday afternoon before a very large attendance. There were various competitions, including a light harness exhibition.

The Pa ton district picnic excursion numbering upwards of two bundled visited Hokitika on Saturday, travelling by the ordinary train. Cass Sqmire 'was made the headquarters, and a very pleasant day was spoilt, the excursionists returning northward by the evening train.
Whilst at work on the Taipo bridge on Wednesday afternoon one of the workmen, Mr A. Clausen, met with a painful accident. Clausen was m the act of throwing down a piece of old timber from the top structure oi the bridge, when a projecting nail came into contact: with his clothes, and he was thrown heavily to the ground, sustaining injuries to his feet. Altei tiling attended to by Dr Booth, the sufferer was conveyed to the Westland Hospital, when an X-ray examination disclosed a broken hone in one foot whilst the other foot was considerably bruised.
