NAPIER, February 17. At the sports meeting at Napier last night, J. Fleming. New Zealand quar-ter-mile champion, wort the 440yds aviation race easily in off ff-j secs. He found the handicaps too great in the WO yards and ffOO yards, which were won by B. Greenside, the Hawke’s Bay representiativc footballer. Miss Manton. New Zealand ladies’ champion, won the 120 yards in 14 1-osces. The Napier team beat the Wellington ladies in the 440 yards relay- in 42 1-5.
ASSISTANCE SOUGHT. LONDON. February Id. “ I think a good case can be made out for asking the Government financially to support our athletes in these international competitions on the ground that sports benefit every class of the community, and contribute towards peace and harmony of the nations,” declared Lord Rochdale at a meeting of ih£ British Olympic Association. £20.000 is needed to send fivo hundred sportsmen to Amsterdam.
