GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS
(Received this day at 8 a.m.) SYDNEY, Feb. 18. The New South Wales ,Golf Council have fixed June 4th as the coininencig date for the new amateur championship and Kirk Windeyer Cup. The competition will extend till the 18th. The Council decided to adopt the same conditions as last year for both events. The meeting ho held on the Royal Sydney Golf Club links. A sub-eom-mitee was appointed to arrange for the reception and entertainment of New Zealand players. It was announced that entries will be accepted from New Zealand visitors for the Royal Sydney Cup which will he played on 6th June.
COAL DISPUTE. SYDNEY, Fell. 18
Mr Baddelev (Minister of Mines) stated to-day that he had been in touch with the parties in the coal dispute. There appeared no difference in the way of resumption of work. The coal owners moot to-day to discuss the position. BISHOP OF LONDON'S VIEW. SYDNEY, Feb. 17. The Bishop of London, speaking at the journalists’ luncheon to him, said after conversations with the . Union leaders, lie had modified his views, expressed yesterday, on Labour’s attitude towards migration. They assured him that Labour was not opposed to Immigration as a whole, but objected to the dumping of immigrants and he agreed with them. EMPLOYERS PB OTEST. SYDNEY, February 18. The Legislative Assembly read a first time the Local Act Amendment Bill which provides for the extension of the franchise in municipal elections to all adults and exemption of church lands from taxes, except when held tor investment purposes. STRIKERS’ SUSTENANCE. BRISBANE, February 1?.
Replying to a deputation from the Trades and Labour Council, which asked him to restore sustenance to unemployed unionists the Premier said the Government had definitely refused sustenance to ally worker connected with the forty hours’ week strike in the building trade. He added the strikers apparently expected the Government to continue the strike by feeding the people wlio caused it.

Railway traffic has been partially restored in the Hood areas hut numbers of bridges are completely washed away and it will be a considerable time before traffic is normal. Carcases of stock are lying about in enormous numbers, some in trees twelve feet above the ground. There has been a huge loss in sugai crops, ft is estimated that three hundred thousand tons were destroyed in Mouriljan area, two hundred thousand in Goondi area and ten thousand in the Government mill area, at South Johnstone.
